About Cantor Meara Lebovitz

Cantor Meara Lebovitz finds deep connection, engagement, and creativity at the intersection of Jewish community and music. She graduated with honors in Music Education from the Hartt School of Music and earned a Master’s in Jewish Communal Service from Gratz College before realizing her dream of serving the Jewish community. In 2020, she was ordained as a cantor by Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion.

As she explains, “I am a cantor because my Jewish soul speaks the language of music. Music has the power to connect us with one another and with our Jewish story. I am eager to share a passion for Jewish music, community, and vibrancy.”

A central focus of Cantor Lebovitz’s work is the power of relationship-building. Her cantorate has been deeply shaped by her clinical pastoral internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, as well as her volunteer service as a disaster responder with the American and Canadian Red Cross in New York, Philadelphia, and Toronto.

Before her ordination, she served as a cantorial intern at Temple Israel in Westport, CT; North Country Reform Temple in Glen Cove, NY; and Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom in Reading, PA. Today, she is honored to continue her work as Assistant Cantor alongside the inspiring clergy team of Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto in Ontario, Canada.
